Jerry Lawler on Bret Hart's induction into the WWE Hall of Fame

Early in his WWE career, Jerry "The King" Lawler had a heated rivalry with Bret Hart and the entire Hart Family. Since then, "The King" has called some of Bret's finest moments from the announcing booth, including Bret's WWE Championship victory at WrestleMania X. WWE.com caught up with Lawler to get his thoughts on Hart's upcoming induction into the WWE Hall of Fame:

WWE.com: How do you feel about Bret Hart being named to the 2006 WWE Hall of Fame induction class?

The King: I was pleased to see that he's going to be inducted. The issues have hopefully mostly been resolved. I think that there are still some problems out there between Vince and Bret that don't allow Bret to come back or where Bret doesn't feel like he can come back and do more with the company. I saw Bret recently at an autograph signing appearance in New York and he looks great. He's in great shape and I think there are a lot of things that he could contribute, and I'm sure the fans would love to see him back on a more regular basis. But I guess he still feels that there's something there that he can't get past. But I guess him being inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame is a step in the right direction and maybe one day we'll get everything resolved and we'll see more of Bret Hart.

WWE.com: With Bret's bitter departure from WWE, did you ever think that this day would come?

The King: It's a surprise; it's one of those things that I thought for a long time would never happen. The last time I talked with Bret, he was very adamant about the fact that he wasn't going to do anything at all with WWE anymore. So, I was surprised that he came back for this. But it's good. There are situations out there — another one is Bruno Sammartino — they're just missing out on opportunities. As days and time pass, those opportunities won't ever be there again. Really, all it probably boils down to is miscommunications and lack of communication. It's something that could probably be resolved.
