After overcoming seven other SmackDown Superstars in a Money in the Bank Ladder Match at the titular pay-per-view event, Kane captured the coveted briefcase for an opportunity at a world championship. Later that night, Rey Mysterio defended the World Heavyweight Championship only to have Kane cash in his title opportunity. The Big Red Monster easily dominated Mysterio to capture his first World Heavyweight Title.
