The ring's most memorable Jewish Superstars: photos
In honor of Hanukkah, WWE Classics pays tribute to some of the Jewish Superstars who made an impact on sports-entertainment history.
Perhaps the most well-known Jewish wrestler was William Goldberg.
He didn’t even go by “Goldberg the Great” or “The Terrifying Goldberg.” He was simply “Goldberg.”
Another Superstar known for his Jewish heritage was the fan favorite Barry Horowitz.
Horowitz didn’t win as often as Goldberg. In fact, Horowitz developed a very different kind of streak with the zero on the other end.
Colt Cabana, the best friend of CM Punk, briefly competed in WWE as Scotty Goldman.
“One of my only regrets in this world was not having a wrestling-themed bar mitzvah,” Cabana told WWE Classics.
Another of Punk’s close friends, Paul Heyman, was raised Jewish in the affluent New York suburb of Scarsdale, N.Y.
Heyman has been credited as the “Creative Rabbi” of THQ’s “WWE ’13” after penning the hot video game’s narrative.
WWE Hall of Fame manager The Grand Wizard was Jewish.
WWE Hall of Fame ring announcer Howard Finkel is also a member of the Jewish people.
Andy Kaufman, a Jewish comedian from Long Island, engaged in a bitter rivalry with Jerry Lawler and was introduced to Lawler by Bill Apter, a Jewish wrestling journalist.
Joel Gertner, Dudley Boyz associate and color commentator, is Jewish and was one of ECW's most popular personalities.
"Macho Man" Randy Savage was half-Jewish on his mother's side.
"Macho Man" is one of the most beloved WWE Superstars of all time.
Raven, born Scott Levy to a Jewish family, was a multi-time ECW Champion.
Raven holds the record for reigns with the WWE Hardcore Championship.
